They charge $9 extra for customers outside of the USA. If you can't tell which component it is, then they can figure it out for you, then they'll e-mail you asking if oyu want to pay for the part before they fix it. You pay for the repair service ($29) and the part you think has broken (most of the parts are below $20). I only sent it to them because they charge less than Nintendo does, but you only get like a 45 day warranty, whereas Nintendo apparently gives you a year. They fixed it but they couldn't stop it from making an annoyingly loud noise when playing any disc-based title. I've sent it in twice to a third party repair service called Console Zombie. My Wii just broke down last month for the third time because of the same problem as yours (first time in 2010 and a second time in 2011). I tried the lens cleaner but it didn't help with my broken Wii. If the disc drive really is dead, could it be a simple enough home fix with a replacement drive, considering the warranty has long expired, or should I just pony up the cash to Nintendo and make sure I uninstall the homebrew channel before I ship it off? Is it possible it's just from a dirty lens reader and could I just get one of those disc cleaners? Or is it just a waste of time? So, I can only assume it's the disc drive. Brawl, just to launch from the Wii Menu, but still no dice. That game disc can't be read, and I keep the games I buy new in impeccable condition. We chalk it up to being a used game (despite it working just fine for me not even a few days ago), so I pop in Mario Kart: Double Dash. I clean off the disc with my breath and shirt, but at the Wii menu, it says the disc cannot be read. After we start up the second level, the cutscene freezes, and an error message pops up saying the disc could not be read. After about an hour, we decide to switch to TimeSplitters 3 on co-op. It has been for a while now, even before I installed homebrew channel, so I just chalked it up to doing it's usual thing. Hindsight being 20/20, I remember now we noticed the disc drive was spinning rather loudly. So tonight, friend and I are playing Project M. Well, bought it in 2007, and it's lasted me for 7 years and a month now, so it certainly lived it's life.
